A dental crown (or cap) is a custom restoration for improving both your oral health and the appearance of your smile. A dental crown is designed to completely enclose the visible surface of a tooth in order to protect soft tissues from bacteria, restore proper function and structure to your mouth, and aesthetically enhance the appearance of your smile.

When you visit our dental office, Dr. Dan Holmes and Dr. Nicole Holmes may recommend a crown to:

  • Protect a cracked or weakened tooth
  • Cover a discolored or misshapen tooth
  • Complete a dental implant
  • Support a dental bridge
  • Enhance the beauty of your smile

Dental crowns can also be used to reposition the way your teeth fit together, what we call your bite, when there is a major misalignment causing any of the following:

  • Neck, shoulder and back tension and pain
  • Tinnitus and ringing in the ears
  • Jaw clicking and chewing pain
  • Clenching and grinding
  • Abfractions – enamel fractures and breaks at the gum line

Furthermore, when we create a crown for you, we will make the crown here, in-house, using CEREC one-visit restoration technology. Our CEREC machine uses advanced scanning technology to design the restoration, eliminating the need for messy impressions. We then send the scan to a 3D carving apparatus in our on-site lab that carves the crown out of a block of high-quality porcelain matched to your individual tooth color.

This technology allows our team to provide you with a custom-made, high-quality dental restoration in a single visit to our office. Traditional dental techniques require at least two visits to complete many dental restorations; CEREC technology saves you time and discomfort by eliminating the need for a second visit.

A dental crown can restore the health, function and beauty of your smile. We provide dental crowns in Fort Collins, Colorado, that are made from high-quality porcelain, and other tooth-colored materials, to ensure that your dental restoration looks and feels as natural as possible. When you wear a crown produced by our dentists, you can rest-assured that your oral health is protected by this durable, natural-looking restoration.
