Oral trauma can come in different degrees of severity. Minor-to-moderate dental trauma can often be repaired by a dental filling or dental crown. In some cases when the pulp or root of the tooth suffered moderate harm, the tooth will need endodontic care via a root canal. In an extreme case when the root has been severely damaged or the socket structure has been compromised, the tooth might need to be extracted at Holmes Dental.
When you’re ready, Dr. Holmes and Dr. Holmes will present you with options for replacing the tooth. If you aren’t interested in the oral surgeries required for a dental implant restoration, they might recommend a dental bridge.
This is a solid piece of dental work that is designed to restore the full function and appearance of the decayed tooth. It is a replacement tooth that is fused to a pair of crowns. The crowns are anchored on abutments that are formed from the core of the two neighboring teeth.
Our dentists will start the process by removing the tooth enamel from the nearby teeth. Then a detailed impression of the abutments and the corresponding teeth in your bite pattern will be made. This will be sent to an off-site dental lab where your new bridge will be made. In the interim, a temporary crown will be secured over each dentin pillar to protect them.
When your bridge is ready, a staff member will call you to schedule an appointment to install it onto the abutments with a strong dental adhesive.
